The quality and detail of decorations which adorned much of the stoneware produced in the Rochester, N.Y. area during the 19th century is unsurpassed by any other pottery in America during that period. Starting in the 1820’s and continuing for many decades thereafter, wonderful examples of decorated stoneware were manufactured. This site explores not only the stoneware, but also several highly skilled potters and decorators who produced these wonderful works of art. Utilitarian objects—crocks, jugs, churns and other shapes—were transformed into beautiful works of art for those who used them on a daily basis.
